Export documentary collection
The basic process for using our export documentary collection services is as follows: After shipping your goods, you provide us with the related documents, such as the invoice, packing lists, transportation and insurance policies/certificates. We then present the documents to the selected bank abroad in accordance with your instructions. The documents are submitted subject to the stipulation that they may be handed over to your trading partner only against payment or acceptance of bills of exchange, whichever is agreed in advance. If for security reasons you addressed the shipment to the bank abroad, the goods will not be released to the buyer until that process is completed.
There is no question that export documentary collection provides an easy-to-use, cost-effective alternative. However, please note that acceptance of the documents, in other words payment or acceptance of the bill by your buyer, cannot be guaranteed. This process is therefore only suitable if you have sufficient experience of the reliability and trustworthiness of your trading partner.
Import documentary collection
If you source goods from abroad, this brief outline of the standard procedure for import documentary collection will be useful. After the ordered goods are shipped, your supplier abroad submits the required documents, such as commercial invoices, and shipping and insurance papers, to its bank. Your supplier will provide the bank with instructions on how to use these documents. We then receive the documents from this bank with instructions to only hand over the papers to you against payment or acceptance of a bill of exchange. If the supplier addresses the goods directly to us, then a release is required, which we will arrange for you. After these papers have been transferred and any release made, or we have endorsed on the back of the bill of lading, the goods are placed at your disposal.
Please note that, in contrast to import documentary credits, documentary collection does not create an obligation for you to accept properly executed documentation.
